When dream homes become a nightmare |

Mortgage stress is affecting just as many households in Ascot as it is in Acacia Ridge, according to the experts. Repossession rates may be on the rise in Queensland but Ben Paris, of Debt Mediators, said the suffering was not confined to outer suburbs. "Mortgage stress does not discriminate between inner city properties and those in the mortgage belt," Mr Paris said. "It is often said that the mortgage belt or the outer suburbs is where the repossessions are but in my experience it's pretty evenly distributed. "There's mortgage stress being felt in Chelmer and Hamilton as well as the mortgage belt. What happens in these suburbs is that they will normally sell before the bank will so we don't always hear about it." For the full story click here source: domain.com.au

Learners Guide to Renting a Property |
They say buying a house is one of the most stressful things you can do – but finding a place to rent is no barrel of laughs either. There’s the trawling through real estate websites, the early morning Saturday wake-up to go to inspections, and then competing with other potential tenants who offer to pay $10 more than the asking price to secure the property! To boost your chances of securing a property, make sure you make a good first impression when you turn up to inspections. It might sound obvious, but a clean and tidy appearance and a friendly demeanour can help the landlord or real estate agent notice you and move you to the top of the list. For younger tenants, for example uni students, it might be a good idea to bring along the parents as well. It also can’t hurt to hand over glowing references from previous landlords. If you are successful you’ll need to hand over a security bond. To read the full article please click here source: money.ninemsn.com.au

No action against vocal NRL coaches |
The NRL has warned club coaches about tirades against match officials but will take no action for comments made after the weekend's games. Manly's Des Hasler, Canterbury's Kevin Moore and South Sydney's John Lang were all critical of referees after their sides' losses during round two. Hasler was the most vocal, telling reporters he would pay for a touch judge to have his eyes tested after his side's 24-20 loss. "Rugby league gives coaches far more latitude than most sports to question decisions and we believe that is the right policy," NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said in a statement on Monday. Half the world’s population earns about 5% of the world’s wealth. More personal telephone calls are made on Mother’s Day in the USA than on any other day in any other country. Most reverse charge calls takes place on Father’s Day. One in ten people in the world live on an island. The opposite sides of a dice cube always add up to seven. If you count the seconds without stopping, it would take you eleven-and-a-half days to reach one million, and 32 years to reach one billion. In the US, murder is committed most frequently in August and least frequently in February. The odds of being struck by lightning are about 600,000 to one. Half the world’s population is under 25 years of age. 10% are over 60 years of age.

Sellers Tips |
For most of us, our home will probably be the most valuable asset we will ever sell. So it’s important to obtain the maximum price the market is prepared to pay. Anyone can “Sell” your home, but at how many thousands of dollars less than what you should have obtained?
It is important to understand that when you market your property for sale, it is in competition with every other similar property currently on the market. If your property is priced substantially above all the other similar properties on the market place then all that will be achieved will be to help all the other properties to sell at the expense of your property. Buyers don’t just buy the first house they see – ask yourself how many houses you looked at before you bought your home.
So how do you ensure that the highest possible price has been achieved? Click here for Sellers Tips: -

Prinny the swimming cat is no soggy moggy |
PRINNY the swimming Persian cat isn't so precious she won't get her paws wet. Instead, the cat joins her friend Bandit the blue heeler when he’s taking a dip at Doggy Paddle in Rosebud, in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, as part of his hydrotherapy sessions for a bad back. “I’ve never seen a cat swim before,” Doggy Paddle owner Jacque Olsen said. “Bandit came here with a bad back and his owner said the cat swims with him at home, so Prinny hopped in the pool with him next time he came.” Ms Olsen set up the 8m x 2m lap pool for her staffy cross ridgeback, Ubud, who suffered an embolism and was paralysed in the back legs. “After six months of swimming Ubud was walking again,” Ms Olsen said. Ubud’s recovery prompted Ms Olsen to set up her Doggy Paddle swim and grooming business and she now has about 150 dogs on her books - and one cat, Prinny. “I’ve always loved animals and always wanted to work with them,” the former graphic designer said. “Ubud died last year but she has brought many beautiful dogs into my life. And Prinny of course.” source: news.com.au |

Bob Irwin doing well after heart attack |
BOB Irwin, the father of late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, is "doing well" and on the road to recovery after suffering a heart attack. The 69-year-old is resting in a private Brisbane hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home near Kingaroy on Sunday night. He was initially taken to Kingaroy hospital but was flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Brisbane's Holy Spirit Northside Hospital, where he is in a specialist cardiac care unit. Mr Irwin's wife Judy said he was now stable and has asked for privacy. "He suffered a large heart attack but is currently stable in ICU," Mrs Irwin said. "We would appreciate respect for our privacy so that Bob may make a full and speedy recovery." She also thanked staff at Kingaroy hospital and the RFDS for "the wonderful care provided". A spokeswoman for Australia Zoo, which he founded on the Sunshine Coast, said Mr Irwin was "doing well" but could not comment further. On Sunday, Mr Irwin's daughter-in-law, Terri, who is currently in the United States, said the incident had given the family a big scare. "It has been a worrying time, but Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin and the entire Australia Zoo family are relieved that Bob is now doing well," she said. "Knowing Bob, he's as tough as nails, and will be back on his feet in no time." The hospital said it was unable to comment on his condition. Bob and Judy Irwin now live on a property half-an-hour outside of Kingaroy. source: news.com.au |

Has Lara Bingle's engagement ring lost its sparkle? |
WHEN things go wrong, they often go horribly wrong. Jewellery valuer Roy Cohen, CEO of The Gold Company and the Diamond Certification Laboratory of Australia, has added to Lara Bingle's woes by saying her engagement ring is not worth the $200,000 Michael Clarke reportedly paid for it. He reckons the 4.7 carat pearl-shaped sparkler is worth only $50,000, but does acknowledge its notoriety has an unknown worth. He also would not comment on whether rumours the sparkler had been flushed down the loo had hurt the price. Haggling over the ring's value didn't seem to upset Clarke yesterday as he notched up a ton in the first Test against NZ in Wellington. source: news.com.au |

Push to probe Tyson's reality TV show |
An animal welfare group wants New York City prosecutors to investigate boxing great Mike Tyson's upcoming reality television show about pigeon racing. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals alleges the Brooklyn-based show is cruel to animals. It says races likely will involve illegal gambling. The show will follow Tyson as he competes in pigeon races. The former world heavyweight champion has raised pigeons all his life but is a racing rookie. The show is expected to air next year on Animal Planet. Network representatives haven't responded to an email sent on Sunday by The Associated Press seeking comment. Tyson's representatives can't be reached by telephone. PETA sent a letter dated March 18 to the Brooklyn district lawyer's office requesting an investigation. District lawyer spokesman Jonah Bruno says the office is looking into the allegations. source: ninemsn.com.au |

Joke of the week |
Judi tried to sell her old car. She was having a lot of problems selling it, because the car had 250,000 miles. One day, she told her problem to a friend she worked with at a salon. Her friend told her, "There is a possibility to make the car easier to sell, but it's not legal."
"That doesn't matter," replied Judi, "if only I can sell the car."
"Okay," said Judi's friend. "Here is the address of a friend of mine. He owns a car repair shop. Tell him I sent you and he will turn the counter in your car back to 50,000 miles. Then it should not be a problem to sell your car anymore."
The following weekend, Judi made the trip to the mechanic. Two weeks later the friend asked Judi, "Did you sell your car?"
"No," replied Judi, "why should I? It only has 50,000 miles on it!" Send in your joke of the week to: clevelandre@elders.com.au |

Amazing but True |
5 Most Bizarre But True Stories in Australia... Water Buffalo Takes the Plunge! Earlier this month, a Howard Springs man finished mowing his lawn and noticed a water buffalo casually strolling up the driveway. Karl Stowers was stunned as he watched it jump in his pool and swim. Mr. Stowers yelled at it to no avail and then lured the beast out of the pool with food. It proceeded to run across his freshly mowed lawn and roll around in a mud puddle. The buffalo may be the same one spotted strolling around in the yards of other Howard Springs’ residents.
Love Soars to New Heights! A few days after Christmas, a North Cairns police officer heard voices from above and spotted two people climbing down a crane access ladder over a construction site. Elisha Walker and Nigel Meighan were each recently released on a good behaviour bond after they plead guilty to the stunt. Mr. Meighan told the magistrate it was just a silly thing he and Walker thought up when they saw the crane, and they had not considered the consequences since they were drunk at the time.
Praying Mantis Becomes a Video Star! A Brisbane couple, Maria and Rod Thompson, has captured amazing video of a praying mantis chasing a computer mouse cursor around the screen. Mrs. Thompson said the mantis was seen in the home before, and one night it poked its head over the computer as her husband was checking email. When the mouse was bumped, the praying mantis surprised them by leaping at the cursor. This began a twenty-minute game, and the couple filmed the unusual spectacle that can now be seen on YouTube.
Truck Driver Gets Stuck on the Phone! 43-year-old Darwin truck driver, Gye Gardner, broke his mobile phone's headset and repaired it with superglue. His boss called before it dried, and it stuck to his ear. He said he usually kept the headset in his ear most of the day, and friends even jokingly suggested that he leave it stuck and plug his ear into the power point at night to charge the headset. Gardner scraped the earpiece from his ear but several pieces of skin were left stuck to the headset. He said removing it was painful, but it did not hurt as much as his pride!
Man is all Thumbs! Semi-retired gun salesperson and firearms inspector, Geoff McLaren, now has his thumb replaced by his left big toe after his thumb was blown off in a recent workplace accident. Surgeons at Sydney Hospital performed the delicate microsurgery. McClaren says he loves to wear sandals, so a missing toe may cramp his style just a bit!
