Council and USC sign MoU to strengthen ties

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Noosa Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast is set to pave the way for new education, research and on-the-job training opportunities.
Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said the MoU would formalise Council’s strong working relationship with the university.
“We’re excited to strengthen our ties and work more closely to develop new opportunities for our community, the university’s students, Council projects and staff,” she said.
USC Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett said USC is committed to building strong partnerships with local government, community and business and she is confident that this agreement will lead to a range of significant outcomes for the region. Read more.

Sow a seed
|
Noosa Library Service’s Seed Library helps residents grow their own food. As well as enjoy produce from the plants, members are invited to complete the cycle by harvesting seeds from the plants they’ve grown and return them to the library for others to use. Seeds are available at Noosa Library Service branches.

Mayor renews quarry call
|
Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart today renewed calls for Cordwell Resources to reduce truck movements during peak school times.
In an Open Letter Cr Stewart said enough was enough.
The Mayor was joined by Noosa MP Sandy Bolton and mother of four Anita Poteri calling on the company, as a good corporate citizen, to stop trucks during school bus times and significantly reduce truck movements to a more manageable level. Read more.

Revamped facilities open
|
Mayor Clare Stewart this week cut the ribbon on Youturn Youth Support’s newly upgraded bathroom and laundry facilities.
Delivered with Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package funding Council received from the state, the upgrades have delivered extra toilets and showers to ensure those doing it tough always have somewhere to turn to wash their clothes and have a hot shower.
Council works closely with Youturn on projects such as Big Hearts for Tiny Homes to address youth homelessness and improve mental health.

Slab poured at Peregian
|
Contractors have poured than 200 cubic metres of cement at the site of the new Community House at Peregian Beach to form the perimeter block walls and concrete slab. Work has also now begun on the first floor form work.
It's part of a $10 million investment into the Rufous Street precinct, which Council is delivering with the support of the state and federal governments.
Rufous Street stage three includes the new Community House, 4000m2 of greenspace, play area and winding footpaths. See the website for more on Rufous Street.

Slope stabilisation starts
|
Work to stabilise the Sobraon Street slope at Sunrise Beach started this week and locals can expect some short term impacts including traffic and pedestrian delays while the construction is underway.
The current one-way traffic arrangement will remain in place until works are completed, then revert to the previous two-way traffic flow.
Council hopes to complete the work within seven weeks, weather pending. More information.

Get tested for COVID-19
|
With new COVID-19 cases on the Sunshine Coast this week it's important keep checking Queensland Health’s website for updates to the list of exposure sites.
If you have any symptoms at all, get tested. Sunny Street’s new clinic next to the post office at Tewantin (corner of Pelican St and Poinciana Avenue) is now open and provides testing, as well as vaccinations for those who are currently eligible. Call 07 5313 7778 to book.
