Library Vibe December 2016

[date-today]

Dear [subscriber-firstname]

Season’s greetings – from Management and staff at Mona Vale Library.

Although we are coming to the end of the year, there’s lots happening through December and well into January to keep you and your family entertained during the holiday season.

Christmas is coming and so is Santa. He will be visiting our last pre-school storytime for the year, and we are also presenting a Christmas movie and our very first Christmas pantomime, which due to popularity has been fully booked out.  However don’t despair there’s still lots of other events you can book for.
Full details of these events are available below and on our website and look out for our brochures in the library.

Our Spotlight this month is on Clue Detective Puzzle Agency just in time for the Christmas break so you can join up and do lots of online puzzles in your free time.

We are once again offering our online Kids Summer Reading Club – so if you’re keen please register before 22 January 2016 Details are also on our website.

All at Mona Vale Library wish you the happiest of Christmases and an exciting New Year to come.

We have enjoyed bringing you the best reading, events and programs in 2015 and look forward to much more in 2016.

Book Review

Alan Cumming - Not my father’s son: a memoir

Although I work in the library – I am still often stuck on what to read next.

Thanks to a lovely borrower, Lisa, I ended up with Alan Cumming’s book on my bedside table.

This book totally blew me away.

This is a story of personal challenge and self-discovery and the ultimate struggle to understand and reconcile relationships and family history.

Love this book and Alan Cumming even more.

Note: this book is also available in eAudio through our OneClick Digital platform. The author’s own narration adds to the depth and emotion of this story and brings it to life with a mix of sadness and humour.

Mary, Community Development Librarian.

What did we do in 2015?

2015 has been a particularly busy year for Mona Vale Library:  Here’s a snapshot of the highlights:

Holiday Reading

If you are looking for a good book to read over the Summer break check out the December issue of Good Reading magazine. Just click on this link, then click on Good Reading.  http://www.pittwater.nsw.gov.au/library/Book_News__and__Reviw

Aussie favourite Fiona McIntosh is back with The Perfumer's Secret and an article she wrote about her research trips to France, during which she crafted her own fragrance. Professor Robert Power, an award-winning short story writer and acclaimed novelist, tells us about his latest semi-fantastical offering Tidetown and his work in Zimbabwe that inspired his characters. Peter Garrett, takes us on a tour of his bookshelf, and you can also dip into a conversation with one of the world's most fascinating scientists. Leaf through the reviews and Summer Reading Guide to find your next book to enjoy in the sunshine, and for dog lovers, there are two canine-themed articles featuring posing French bulldogs and a labrador detective called Monty.

And if you have a bit of spare time coming up you might want to try our Runaround 7-day reads. Runarounds are those ‘hot’ tiltes which are currently high in demand and selling really well in the Bookshops. We only lend them for 7 days so they can be in and out of the library quickly allowing for fast circulation.
