South African company, First Rand Limited, located its Australian insurance subsidiary in Maroochydore following almost three years of development and research in the local market. Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s economic development branch worked closely with the company in the early stages of their site selection to “We’re overwhelmed with the public response to our business in such a short time. We were quickly faced with the daunting challenge of finding substantially more office space to cater for the growth of Youi and its staff under one roof. The Sunshine Coast has proven yet again, that it can accommodate larger scale business, says Youi Chief Executive Office, Hugo Schreuder. Council has recently unanimously endorsed "Our Place Our Future"—the most significant planning project council will undertake this term. The project invites the community to have its say on direction setting documents that will guide the creation of the new Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme and the way the region looks and feels over the next twenty years. Out for this round of community discussion and comment will be the Statement of Proposals—the big picture issues to be addressed in the new planning scheme—and eleven key papers that will inform the drafting of the scheme and guide council’s future operations, partnership programs and liaison with government agencies. The documents are available on council's website and council is also taking these documents on the road, visiting locations across the Coast. Staff will be on hand to provide more information and answer questions so that you can have your say during the community engagement period—Monday 12 October to Monday 7 December 2009. Static displays can be viewed at all council libraries and customer service centres. For roadshow dates and venues, copies of the documents and more information, visit council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
